There haft been little alteration in values in the grain market during the week, wheat continuing in good demand at 5s 3d; but as there is none offering, quotation is merely nominal. Oats are quiet but firm, at 2s to 2s 3d, acoording to quality; tor barley there is no enquiry, except for Dest malting samples. Millers' quotations remain at £l4; demand reported eood. Potatoes meet with no Bale for export, as the new crop in the North is now coming in; for email lots retailers offer 555. Butter and cheese are quiet, the former offering freely, buyers' quotations being Bid and 6jd respectively. Hams and bacon continue unaltered at 9dbare, and 9Jd in cloth fob. Business this week has been dull in the import markets, owing, no doubt, to the shows that have taken place in Timaru, Kangiora, Leeston, and Lincoln attracting many of the business people of Christchurch. We cannot look for a busy time next week, as it will consist principally of holidays, it being race week, 4c Woolpacks-Thislineislow in stock, and holders ask 3s 4id to 38 6d for ordfnary full sized packs. Cornxacks-There is little doing in these; the Sunbeam, from Calcutta, brought a large quantity on joint account, for two large firms here, with the exception of two large sales, equal to about 500 hales ex this ship, at prices withheld, we have nothing of note to report. The ship Waimate arrived from London an the 31st ult; the ship Laaystone left London about same time as the above, and Bhould turn up at any moment.
