MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, November 2. [Before C. P. Cox, Ksq., J.P.] Furious Driving. —John Smith and Peter Pascbe, charged with the above offence, were lined 10s each. Stage : Carriage Ordinance. —George Simmons, for plying for hire off his usual route, was fined 10s ; Millett and Saunders, for a similar offence, were fined 10s; Andrew McTaggert, for being absent from his cab, was fined 10s; Frederick Palmer, for a similar offence, was fined 10s. Horses and Cattle at Large —For having horses and cattle at large the following fines’ were inflicted J. Garland, one horse at large, fined 5s ; Samuel Taylor, foi one horse, 5s ; J. H. Andrews, for one horse, ss; R. Adams, for one horse, was lined ss‘; Andrew Donnaghue, for four horses, was lined ss; James Gellitigian, for one horse, was lined ss. John Bade, for being t' e owner of seven horses at large, was lined ss.

Breach oe Domain Regulations.—P. B. Pryde, for being the owner of a dog found in the Domain, was lined 10s. Selling Drink during Prohibited Hours. William Maples charged with keeping his house open during prohibited hours, on October 21st, was fined £5. Henry Hadrell, charged with a like offence, was fined £5. Tfios. Py.ett was similarly charged. Mr Pyett denied the charge. <; His house was closed, and the key in his pocket at eleven o’clock, and he was positive that no drink was supplied after 11 o’clock on tire date named. A witness deposed that he .went into the house jnst before.eleven. No liquor served. Case dismissed.

Destitute Persons Relief Ordinance.— James Douglas was ordered to pay Ss per week towards the support of his illegitimate child, and was also to pay witness’ expenses. Married Womens Protection Act.— Mrs Watts applied for an order to protect her earnings from her husband. Order granted. Drunk and Resisting the Police.—G. Dalton was charged with being drunk and disorderly, and resisting the police in the execution of their duty at the Railway station ;, fined 10s. Obscene Language.— Alice O’Neill, for using obscene language in the street, on November Ist, was lined 20s. Drunk and Disorderly. A case, Isabella Lcckie, for being drunk and disorderly on November 2nd, was dismissed. Breach of City Bye-Laws. —James Garland, for this offence, was fined ss. A case against P. Kerr and John Lilley was adjourned till the IGth. Driving without a License —James Ashman, for driving without a license, was fined 10s.

Slaughter-House Licenses. —The following persons made application for licenses: W. S. Perry, section (> 10, Heathcote dis trict; Richard Brown, section 113, Spreydon district; J. I>. Graham, section 204, Sumner district; P. Grant and Co, section 180, li earton district; Morris and Miiburn, section 2,045, Heathcote district ; Joseph Rosewarne, section 151, Papanui district. Licences all granted except in the case of Grant and Co, which was adjourned for a fortnight.
