The aspect of the midnight sky Is pleasing. The constellation Orion rising a little before lOh p m, and on the meridian a little before 4h a.m. Sirius to the south, and Alfiebaran and the Hyades and Pit lades to the north-east. Venus is a morning star, but Jupiter and Saturn are both evening stars, the former setting a little before 9 pm, and the latter about 2h a m. The Sun is in the sign Scorpio, and will be until the 2lst, when he enters Sagittarius. The length of day on the Ist will be about l3h 64m, and on the loth about 14h 28ra. The Phases ol the Moon for the month will be— Full Moon 2d Xih 2m a.m. Last Quarter 9d 4h 48m a m,New Moon I6d Oh 19m p.m. First Quarter 24d 3h 58m pm. The Moon will be nearest to the earth on 6d 6h p,m, and at greatest distance on the 2.d 5h p m, Mercury—2d 5h a.m will be in greatest heliocentric latitude north; 15d 5h pm in conjunction with the Moon. Mercury sdeg 46m north, and on the 23d 6h p.m will be in descending node. Venus—l2d 5h a.m, lu conjunction with the Moon. Venus 4deg 8m north; 15d 9h a.m. at nearest point to the Sun; aud on 28d 8h p.m. will be in conjunction with Mars. Venus Jdeg lom north. Mars is a morning star, rising a little before 4h a.m, and on the 13d 10b p.m. will be In conjunction with the Moon. Mars, 4deg north. Jupiter is an evening star, and will be in conjunction with the Moon l7d 6h p.m, Jupiter being about ssdeg north. Saturn—sd llh a.ra, will be stationary; 24d Ih a.m. In quadrature with the Sun; and on the 24d 3h p.m. will be in conjunction with the Moon. Saturn, Odeg 31m south. Uranus—l7d 3h a.m. in quadrature with the Sun, and on the 30d2h p.m. will be stationary.
