SPORTING.
OAMARU STEEPLECHASE. (Timaru Herald.) The first steeplechase meeting held at Oamaru came off on Thursday last. The weather was not of the pleasantest description, bat the sport was very good, the meeting being altogether very successful. The following was the result of the racing Maiden Steeplechase, of 35 sovs; for all horses that have never won a steeplechase (matches and Hack races excepted) ; about two miles, over fifteen jumps, and across such country as the stewards may appoint. Weight for age ; entrance, £2 2s, with a sweep of £2 2s each, to go to the second horse. Mr A. Thomson’s b m Forest Queen, 5 yrs, list 81b (Jones) 1 Mr Fraser’s b g Larrikin (late Canary), 5 yrs, list 81b (W. McKay) 2 Mr Paterson’s ch g Te Kooti, 5 yrs, list 81b (J. McGregor) 3 Mr Fraser’s b g Mutineer, 6 yrs, 12st 81b (R. Galt) 4 Oamaru Handicap Steeplechase Cup, of 75 sovs (a Handicap) ; about three miles, over such jumps and across such country as the stewards may appoint.
