The Victorian Government intend to propose a conference, to consider the duplicate cable propositions. A telegram states that Commissioner St George, inspector of police, and two constables endeavored to protect some Chinese landing at Trinity Bay, but failed, the mob rushing them back into the water. The Commissioner urged the immediate despatch of a reinforcement of police to vindicate the law. INTERPROV IN CIAL. Auckland, October 20. The Bank of New Zealand half-yearly meeting took place today. The report showed a net profit, after allowing for bad debts, of £54,300. Other receipts made the total for division, £63,000. A dividend of 15 per cent is declared. Interest, £1942, has been reserved for the Fiji Bank shareholders; £B6OO is the balance carried forward. Auckland, October 21. Fat cattle were in full supply on Thursday, at 35s per 1001 b, for choice; fatted large cattle, 27s and upwards ; shorn sheep 2£d, in wool 3d. In the match Roberts v Weston, the latter played better than usual, and won when Roberts reached 868, Roberts’s greatest break was 119, Weston’s 33. Roberts left for the South to-day, to catch the Ringarooma. Bank of New Zealand, buyers, £lB (ex div.) ; South British, buyers, 56s 6d ; New Zealand Loan and Mercantile (old), buyers, 90s.
