MAGISTRATES' COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Fbiday, October 20. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq, R.M., and Percy Cox, Esq, J.P.) Drunk and Disorderly.—H. F. Allen, who had been several times convicted for drunkenness, and had received several chances, was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment with hard labor. Two inebriates who appeared for the first time — one having been in charge of a horse and cart, were fined 10s and 20s respectively. Two other first offenders were each fined ss, Jacob Cox was fined 40s. Drunk and Fighting.—Archibald Graham and John Frost, for being drunk and fighting in a public thoroughfare, were each fined 10s. Drunk and Using Obscene Language. —Margaret Maloney and Amy Rachel, arrested for drunkenness and using obscene language in front of the Music Hall, were each fined 20s. Larceny.—Sarah Longden was charged with stealing a leg of pork belonging to W. Dingle, butcher. A man named Alfred Wells, in the employ of Mr Dingle, had been serving meat to a customer the previous day at Phillipstown, near accused's house, and while doing so she stole the meat out of the cart. It was valued at 4s or ss. When spoken to by Detective Bettington accused denied having taken the pork, and persisted that she was an honest woman. In reply to the Bench accused said she had only taken it for a lark, and was willing to pay for it. It was stated that the woman was often in the habit of visiting houses of ill fame, and she was sentenced to seven daye' imprisonment with hard labor.
