Roberts, last night, gave Wesfcou 500 out of 1000, but Weston won by four points. Roberts made a break of 193, and made 51 by spot strokes. Roberts was not in his usual form. A meeting was held to-day at which it was resolved to have a public demonstration previous to Sir J. Vogel leaving the colony, and to present him on the occasion with a suitable testimonial. All classes are invited to join in the movement. Chief Justice Prendergast has issued a rule of Court this morning for a special sitting of the Court in reference to the letter sent to him by Mr G. E. Barton, and in which he complained of the Judge's treatment of him and informed him that he had asked the Government for an inquiry. The Chief Justice said he had the Registrar's affidavit to the Court, proving the authorship of the letter. He therefore summoned Mr G. E. Barton, barrister, and writer of the letter, to attend at ten a.m. on Monday next, to answer for his contempt of Court, and in order that Court might pass such judgment upon him as might seem tit. The Union Company's steamer Beautiful Star struck on Shag reef last night. She was got off in a quarter of an hour. The donkey engine was kept at work pumping her free. She returned to Port Chalmers and was beached. The water still making and filling the midship compartment she was taken info the floating dock. There are several holes in both sides, and about thirty-five feet of pl-iting will have to be removed. It is feared that there is other damage. The ballast has been taken out, for examination.
