MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, September 19. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq, R.M.) Drunk and Disorderly. —W. McKay George, arrested for drunkenness, was fined 20s and cab-hire. Jane McMahon, an old offender, and who had used abusive language after being arrested, was fined 60s, and cautioned not to appear before his Worship again. Thomas Smith was fined.lOs. Thomas Cock, charged with drunkenness and resisting the police, was fined 10s, Two inebriates, who made their first appearance, was fined ss.
Lunacy from Drink. —James Wood, who, it was stated, had been drinking lately, and had attempted to injure himself the previous night, was remanded to Lyttelton for eight days for medical treatment.
LYTTELTON. Tuesday, September 19, (Before W. Donald, Esq, R.M.) Drunkenness and Using Obscene Language. —J. O'Neill, arrested by Conetable J ohnstone for this offence, was brought up and fined 10s. Cattle Trespass.—The following persons were fined as under :—W. Mitchell 15s (three cases), W. Graham ss, J. Illingworth ss, E. Banka 6s, W. Satt ss, T, Grange ss, J. B. Webb ss, J. Atkinson ss, with costs in each case.
Breach op the Borough Bye-Laws John Hicks was charged on the information of Constable Butler with setting fire to some rubbish in London street thereby endangering the surrounding buildings. His Worship dismissed the case after having given accused a severe caution. Breach op the Police Ordinance.— John Illingworth w«*a charged on the information of Constable Mclntosh with having left his horse and cart at such a distance as not to have control over the same. The Bench dismissed the case.
