AMUSEMENTS.
THE LYDIA HOWARDE TROUPE. The " Trial by Jury " was again repeated last evening, at the Music Hall, and went even better than on former representations. The burletta seems to be gaining more popularity, the oftener it is enacted, and no wonder, seeing it is one of the most brilliant and amusing pieces yet produced by the company. In consequence of the indisposition of Miss Ashton, a] change had to bo made in the programme, " Kenil worth" being substituted for "Lucia di Lammermoor." The latter burlesque went exceedingly well throughout, if we except a slight contremps which occurred during the entrance of the Queen in her royal carriage. The audience were filled with enthusiasm during the performance of the play, and as a natural result songs were redemanded and responded to by the singers. " Fra Diavolo" and " Trial by Jury " will constitute the programme for this evening. On Saturday evening the persevering and clever scenic artist Mr Briggs, will take his first benelit in Christchurch, when " Chilperic " and a miscellaneous concert will be given, and from the high estimation in which the work of Mr Briggs has been held, apart from the fact of his being strictly a Christchurch artist, we anticipate his friends and the public will rally round him on this occasion. The company appear at Lyttelton to-morrow evening where we feel sure they will be heartily received by the residents there.
