The brig Emma arrived at Port Chalmers on September 7th from the Mauritius with 8800 pockets of sugar. She encountered much heavy weather after passing the Leewards, and had to .heave-to several times, the sea making a clean breach over her. The whaling barque Splendid arrived at Port Chalmers Heads on the 7th. and anchored. She would ship supplies and leave for the cruising urounds off the Solanders on the following day. She reported having landed sealing parties at the Macquarries, and before she left there on the 28th inst thirteen sea elephants had been captured. In noticing the recent departure of the E.M.S.S. Bangalore recently, with the Australian and New Zealand mails, the "Australasian" says:—"The Bangalore on this trip is freighted with the largest amount of treasure which has left this bottom for some time. It is made up of 50,9540zs of gold, valued at £203,318; and thirty boxes containing 155,900 sovereigns from this port, in addition to 491000 sovereigns from Sydney. The united values of the shipment is £850,718." With three-quarters of a million of money, the Bangalore would be a fine prize for a privateer, if such a ship now roamed the seas.
