ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
A melancholy attempt at suicide occurred last night at Lodge's Temperance Boarding House, High street. A man named C. C. Chots, a cabinet maker by trade, who has been living in the house for some time, made a most determined attempt to end his life by cutting his throat. It appears that for some time past he has been out of employment, and during the last few weeks without money as well. He had, in consequence, been in a very desponding state of mind, and had for some time been coming home to bed only, and not to meals. Last night, no one saw him come home } and in consequence of not having been seen go out this morning at the usual time, the door of his room was tried and found to be barricaded. On being forced open a sad sight presented itself. His all but lifeless body was found stretched in bed with the throat cut nearly from ear to ear. Medical aid was immediately sent for, and Dr Turnbull, assisted by Dr Doyle and Dr Frankish sewed up the wound. He was afterwards removed to the Hospital, but very little hope is entertained of his recovery.
