Auckland, September 7. Colonel Haultain has been appointed Sheriff. A serious affray has occurred between two natives at Wharepapa, Waikato, concerning the ground on which to sow wheat. Te Kinna sowed it with oats ; Kawhiti with wheat over the oats, anc Te Kinna struck him twice on the back of the head felling him to the ground. It is supposed he will die. Kawhiti's brother-in-law seized Te Kinna and beat him. The latter ran to the hut, and bringing a loaded gun fired at Hote, the cap snapping only. He was then seized,and bound. He is of the same tribe, and the other of the Ngatihawa. Hote is son of the late William Thomson. The King has ordered Te Kinna to be sent to Hikurangi. He waß taken there on Monday. The Ngatihawas are angry. wishiDg to hand him over to the European law, and say if the King lets him off they will hot tamely submit to the insult.

Wellington, September 8. The football team leave per Albion today. Hailed—Albion, for South, at noon. Roberts played his first billiard match in New Zealand in the Albion Hotel here last evening. Ten shillings was charged for admission, and 120 were present. His opponent Manson is reckoned the best player in Southland. He received 600 out of a 1000 from the champion. Roberts made his first break S 4, and when Manson had scored his first 100, the game stood—Manson, 702; Roborts, 40S. After this the champion scored more slowly, and wheu he had made 500, Hanson's score was 744. When Manson made his second 100, the game stood 802 to 006, and when he made his third 100 it stood at 000 and 804. During all the latter part of the game M anson played well, and when his score was 93b', with Roberts at 839, it looked as if the match would be close. Roberts however set to work in earnest, and gave some splendid exhibitions of his skill, and his score rapidly increased, and he went out with a fine break of 141, winning by 64 points. Roberts is a quick player, and always seems perfectly at ease no matter where the balls are.
