The foreman stated he had seen to the matter. The following report from the foreman of works was read : “ The men have been employed during week at work on Cemetery road, which will be finished to-morrow if pipes come to hand, except metalling of footpath. I have arranged to have stone broken small enough for footpath. The footpath in Winchester street will be repaired this week. The nuisance complained of in St David street has been caused by defective drainage. I have given notice to those interested to have it remedied, which they have promised to comply with; The specifications for the work in Dampier’s Bay, re drains, are ready ; tenders can be called for the work at once. The account for metal laid on the table to-night has been distributed in the following places ;—Hawkhurst road, 65 pards ; Ticehurst road, 21.} yards ; Bridle path, 30 yards,” Regarding the road at the back of Joyce Town, his Worship said the committee appointed bad visited the spot and found there was still great uncertainty as to the boundaries of the proposed road. Several of the residents had had the road surveyed, but not satisfactorily, and Mr Cuff was coming in tomorrow to survey it again. Accounts amounting to £l2B 16s lOd were passed for payment. The Mayor stated the Council’s credit balance at the bank was £777 7s lOd, It was resolved that tenders be called for building the proposed culverts in Voelas road and Godley-quay, to be in by Monday, September 18 th. Cr AUwright said he quite agreed with having fortnightly meetings, but if so they must fyave a works committee appointed—[Hear, hearj—as there were many matters that would require immediate attention. Cr W. Graham said he hoped that Cr Cunningham would withdraw the motion, as next Monday would be the last meeting of the Council as at present constituted, and he himself and other retiring members would no donbt like to say a few words. He was in favor of fortnightly meetings, but thought the matter should be decided by the new Council.
