AMUSEMENTS.

THE LYDIA HOWARDE TROUPE. " Masamello" was the pieee dc resistance at the Music Hall last evening, and drew a good house notwithstanding the counter attraction at the Oddfellows' Hall. The burlesque evidently showed signs of a want of careful and attentive rehearsal, as, played as it was last night, there was no "go" or spirit in it, if we except the little amusement caused by the appearance of the "moke." As a burlesque it is very tame, but the introduction of some very nice and lively music, had the effect of carrying out what would otherwise have been a somewhat dreary play, to a very fair issue. Miss Howarde and Mr Gary sang with fine effect the well-known duet, " The minute gun at sea,'' for which they received the plaudits of the audience, and Miss Howarde for her rendering of " Caller herrin' " was warmly welcomed. Misses Navaro and Nye, who were in good voice, sang with much taste and feeling the duets " Liquid gems" and "The good-bye at the door, whioh were warmly received. The gem of the evening, "Esmeralda," was capitally given by the latter lady, and narrowly escaped an encore. Mr Power's make-up as Fenella was good ; whilst Messrs Towle, Hill, and the other members of the company did their best to amuse. Mr Towle's song, "Is my darling true to me," was very correctly sung, and drew forth much applause. The same programme will be repeated this evening, and to-morrow Mr Power's benefit will take place.
