COMMERCIAL.

The grain market continues quiet, no sales direct from producers’ hands having come under our notice during the week. We have however no change to report in values, buyers’ quotations remaining at 4s 3d to 4s 4d for prime milling wheat, and Is 8d to Is 9d for oats. For barley there is now little demand, and none is ollering. Flour is lirm. and best brands in good inquiry at £il t'.o-b, in sacks. A rather better feeling is noticeable in potatoes, some heavy shipments having lately somewhat bared the market. The low prices lately ruling has also caused a little speculation, and holders are firmer at 32s tid to 355, but any large lots would be difficult to place at the latter figure. Cheese has been offering freely during the week, and sales have been made at 7d. Butter is without alteration at lid ; stocks in traders’ hands are not large. Hams and bacon are in fair demand, but at this season exports are not so heavy as a little lattr on. Quotations remain at 9d bare, and 9jd cloth. We have no change to report in the import market, business being particularly dull. A few lots of teas have been sold in trade parcels at Is 5d to 2s 2d 1.8., boxes meet with most sale. Holders of last season’s teas are working stocks down by forcing sales at low rates. Sugars—the demand is mostly lor trade requirements, with the exception of a line or two of yellows sold to brewers, we liave nothin 0 ' of note to report. Bottled stouts have been in fair request, Blood’s and Guinness’s selling freely at 11s to lls 3d. A line of Jeffry’s has been taken up at price withheld. Bottled ales are slow of sale. Bulk ales- well-known brands fetch £9 10s to £lO per hhd. A small parcel of Norwegian bottled ale has been quitted at extreme rates, viz, 138 to 13s 6d. Woolpacks—large sales have been recorded at 3s 4d to 3s 5d for full weights. Tobaccoes have been placed at Is 7d to la 8d for best brands in case andquarter-tierce. Galvanised iron —the market is getting much firmer, clearing sales have been effected at £3l per ton for Gospel Oak brand. We have no change to report in cement. Fencing wire—sales have been effected at £lB to £2O 10s tor numbers 7 to 9.
