Auckland, August 30. The football team arrived in the Hawea. They play at Ellerslie to morrow afternoon. The report by an accountant on the state of the city books?, shows a very disgraceful system of keeping accounts. One report sayn the books in no way represent the state of the city finances. The ship Sam Mendel has arrived from Londou ninety-one days out. She brings a few passeugeis. The Hero took a large shipment of gold for Australia to-day. Dunedin, August 31. The tenders for street tramways are to close in thiee months. Mr Tunbridge, who saved the lives of the crew of the Dagmar off the coast recently, has presented with a gold watch. The committee of the late public meeting have resolved that weekly meetings of the committee should be held till the close of the session, in order to watch the course of events, and take further action if found necessary. It was resolved to open communication with committees in the country districts, and in co-operation with them promise combined action, as occasion arises, in such direction as may bo found desirable. A house in Albany street was destroyed by fire last night. It was insured for £l5O in the New Zealand and £l5O in the Royal Insurance Companies. INTERPBOVINCIAL FOOTBALL MATCH. (From a correspondent of the Press.") Auckland, August 30. The team arrived early this morning, and met with the kindest possible reception. They came over from the Port of Onehunga in a conveyance provided by the Auckland Football Club, and were taken this afternoon to the ground at Ellerslie, which is very even, but heavy from the recent rains. Free passes have been given to all places of amusement this evening, and on railways. The following are the Auckland team : Forward— W."
