The deputation had urged upon the Government the desirability of making a grant to the Widow and family of the late Mr Fuller. The letter now stated that the Government had, after carefully considering the matter, come to the conclusion that the case was not one in which a grant from the public funds could be made.
A letter was read from Mrs Fuller asking the Governors to grant her some assistance, M she had been left in very poor circumstances. She urged that from her husband's long connection with the museum as taxidermist, he was entitled to have received a month's salary, whereas he was dismissed at Tory short notice. The Rev 0. Fraser moved—" That the consideration of Mrs Fuller's letter be further postponed." They would be better able after a short delay to say how their funds would b 9 likely to stand. The Ven Archdeacon Willock seconded the motion, which was agreed to. The Rev 0. Fraser said that it would perhaps be as well if the chairman would read a telegram received from the chairman of the Board, which was very satisfactory. The College estimates were to be included under the head of Provincial liabilities, and he had also had the assurance of a member of the Ministry that they would bring the College estimates down to the House. The chairman then read the telegram as follows :—"The estimates as furnished by the College will be included in Provincial liabilities, which the Government are now arranging, I have bad the assurance of a Minister that the College estimates have been sanctioned." The chairman was instructed to remit 4300 to England, for the purchase of books for the reference library.
