AMUSEMENTS.
THE LYDIA HOWARDS TROUPE. “The White Cat” was performed on Saturday afternoon at the Music Hall for the edification of the juvenile community, of whom there was a good attendance, notwithstanding the counter attraction of the Poultry Show. The children were evidently very much amused at the burlesque and evinced the same in a most vehement manner. In the evening “The Beggar’s Opera” was again placed on the stage to a capital house, the audience evidently not being particularly smitten with the piece, as evidenced by the want of enthusiasm which prevailed although one and all did their best to endeavor to make the most of the parts allotted to them. “ The Beggar’s Opera” and “ How to Settle Accounts” will be given this evening. For Wednesday night “Chilperic” will be again enacted, and on Thursday Miss Lydia Howarde will take a benefit, the piece selected being Sullivan’s “Trial by Jury,” and “Nemesis.” With such a programme, apart from the fact of Miss Howarde’s popularity and worth as a burlesque actress, we anticipate a crowded house. During the play of “ Nemesis” Miss Howarde will sing Sir Henry Bishop’s beautiful song “Bid me Discourse,” with flute obligato by Mr H. F. Poore, added to which several new songs and chorusses will be introduced, in order to make it the most suceessful programme of the season.
