The three-masted schooner Alma arrived on August 18th, at Melbourne from this port. The barque John Knox left Wellington on Wednesday afternoon, and arrived at this port on Friday evening, having experienced light northerly winds and tine weather during the run down. The brig Star of the Mersey arrived at 5.30 p.m. last night, and anchored off the breakwater. Reports leaving Newcastle same day as Witch of the Wave, The brig Jane, from Hobart Town with a cargo consigned to W. H. Hargreaves, is expected daily. We are happy to be able to state that the barque Glencoe arrived safely at Fort Chalmers on Friday afternoon, all well, she lost her deck load on the passage. , , , The Lyttelton owned barque Sunbeam arrived at Calcutta on July 11th. She returns to Lyttelton with a full cargo of comsack-. The Fenola, rig not mentioned, left New York on July 20th for New Zealand, with 46u0 cases. The May, three-masted schooner, and the Ger Falcon, rig not mentioned, were loading at Foochow on July 11th for New Zealand; and the Miss Kclmausegge was expected to load for Dunedin. The ship Himalaya from this port arrived at London prior to the 26th July. The Maria, rig not mentioned, left Deal on June 10th for Picton. New Zealand. On July 17th the ship Inverness was seriously damaged by lire whilst lying in Millwall Docks, in London. The brig Emperor. Captain Cleary, left Newcastle on the 15th lor tins port coal-laden. The Rose M, barque, for 1 imam, and Wave, brig, for Oamaru, left Newcastle the same day as the Emperor. The Sunbeam, barque, arrived at Calcutta from Adelaide, prior to 19th July. The ship Allenshaw arrived at Melbourne on August 16th, seventy-four days out from London. Bhe reports having sighted a ship, supposed to be the Sam Mendel, bound to New Zealand, in the meridian of Cape Leuwin. The fine barque Cabarfeidh, Capt K. M'Kenzie, arrived from Newcastle at noon on Saturday. Reports leaving Newcastle on August llth with light easterly airs and calms, which prevailed till Tuesday, when a N.W. breeze sprang up, which carried her to within 100 miles of the land. Sighted Cape Farewell on Monday, 2lst, had light southerly aud easterly winds through the Straits, passed Cape Campbell on Friday, and thence had northerly wiuds to arrival as above. The Cabarfeidh will be berthed to-day at Peacock’s wharf to discharge. The Witch of the Wave, Captain Guthrie, arrived in harbor at 7 a.m. on Saturday, witu a cargo of coal for W. Montgomery and Co. Reports leaving Newcastle on August Bth with a westerly wind, which lasted till the loth, when it veered round to the southward, blowing light from that quarter for ten consecutive days, much rain falling. Cape Farewell was made on the 21st, and the wind In the Straits proving light and variable did not clear them for two days. On Thursday morning a light easterly breeze sprang up. lasting till Friday, when It veered round to the north, bringing the ▼easel to an anchorage as above. The s.s Arawata left Lyttelton at 6 p.m on the 22nd, arrived at Wellington at 8.30 a.m on fhe 23rd; left at 10.45 p.m, arrived at Nelson at 10 a.m on the 24th; left again at 12.20 p.m, arrived at Wellington at 8 50 p m ; left at 3.20 p.m on the 25th, arrived at Lyttelton 6 a.m on the 26th. She brought 10 tons of cargo for this port, which she discharged at the Gladstone pier. After taking in cargo the Arawata sailed lor Melbourne via South at 6 p.m Saturday, taking outward Suez mail. We thank Mr Miller the purser for report and tiles. The favorite s.s Taranaki left the Manakau at 11.30 a.m on the 23rd, reached Taranaki on the 24th at 5.30 a.m; left again at S) a.m same day, arrived at Nelson at 11 p.m that night; sailed at 11.30 a.m 35th, reached Picton at 7.40 p.m; left at midnight, and arrived at Wellington at 5.30 a.m on Saturday ; sailed at 4.35 p.m, and reached this port at 10.15 a.m yesterday. Had fine weather throughout the passage, calms and light westerly airs. The Taranaki brought 140 tons of cargo for this port, principally wool and tallow for the Wanlook, and was berthed at the Gladstone pier to discharge into that vessel. She takes 100 tons of cargo for South, and sails this afternoon. We are obliged to Mr Dougherty the purser for report and liles. The schooner Saxon left Mercury Bay on Friday. 18th August, and had fine easterly breezes to Portland, and thence southerly winds for live days, thence westerly to arrival at 5 a.m. yesterday. There was a heavy sea outside on Saturday. The schooner Nelson, Captain Dempsey, arrived from Picton at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Reports leaving that port at 6 a.m. on Thursday with light airs and calms, cleared the Sound at 8 a.m. on Friday with a light SW. wind; were off Cape Campbell at 6 p m7that night, had strong northerly breeze which lasted till arrival. Saw the Enterprise tchooner, on Friday standing into Cloudy Bay. Ibe Nelson Is anew schooner, belonging to Freeman Brothers, of Nelson, and is noted for her sailing qualities.

A light westerly wind sprang' up yesterday mornincr, and all the vessels ready for sea-with the exception of the Island City, barque, and Omaha,

brigantine, got down as far as the Heads. These latter remained with their sails loose all day, but did not make a start. The City of Dunedin, under charge of Pilot Keed, sailed about 1 p.m. The s.s Ringarooma, Captain J. McLean, reports leaving Sandrldge Railway Pier 19th August, at 2.15 p.m, cleared the Heads at 5.15 p m, and Swan Island noon next day, calm, clear weather; passed the Solander Island at 4.15 p.m. on 23rd, and arrived at Bluff 10 p.m. same day, experienced moderate N. K. winds and very fine weather throughout the passage; left for Dunedin on 24th, at 4 40 p.ra. arrived 25th, at 7.15 a.m, left for Lyttelton at 4.10 p.m, arrived on 26th, at 9 50 a.m, strong northerly wind up coast. The Ringarooma brought 50 tons of cargo, and the Suez and intercolonial mails, in all twenty-six mail packages. Mr A. W, Chatfleld, the purser, obliged us with report and files. The steamer was berthed at the Gladstone Pier, to discharge, and sailed for Nelson and Wellington at 5.30 p.m on Saturday.
