SOUTH CANTERBURY ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

We learn from the Herald that at a meeting of the society held on Saturday, the following resolutions were then passed : «< That in order to assist the rapid introduction of game and fish into South Canterbury, any subscriber of £2 or over introducing any of the animals hereafter enumerated will be refunded by this society at the rates mentioned, such animals to be liberated in localities fixed by the member or members introducing them ; members to give written notice to the secretary stating the number and description of the animals ordered, and the localities fixed for their liberation. Priority of application for refunds, after animals have been introduced, to regulate the payments of the money allocated for this purpose. The animals and numbers to be introduced are:-120 hen pheasants, £1 each ; 40 cock pheasants, 10s each ; 100 partridges, £1 each ; 200 Californian quail, 4s per pair (male and female) ; 20 hares, £2 per pair (male and female) ; 2000 English trout, £1 per 100."—" That the funds of the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society be lodged with Messrs Russell, Ritchie and Co, Timaru, payable on demand, and bearing interest at the rate of seven per cent."—" That the sum of £3, as per account, be paid for express hire for the carriage of birdß, &c, on arrival in Timaru." It appears that the funds of the Society still amounts to £512, and as there is no apparent opportunity for spending this money advantageously and expeditiously, the committee have decided, according to the resolution mentioned, to allow subscribers of £2 or more to import game and fish through private means, offering to recoup them at the rates mentioned. For this purpose £3OO has been set aside, and no doubt many will take immediate advantage of this opportunity to introduce game on their properties at little or no cost."
