AMUSEMENTS.

THE LYDIA HOWARDE TROUPE.

There was another full house at the Music Hall last evening, when “ Ivauhoe ” was again most successfully repeated. The singing incidental to the burlesque was capitally rendered, and the dancing of Miss Nye met with an enthusiastic reception from the audience, as did also the favorite airs by Miss Lydia Howarde, and Miss Navaro. Messrs Power and Hill kept the house in roars of laughter by their inimitable acting, and Messrs Cary and other members of the company did good service in their respective parts. The same programme will be repeated this evening. We understand Mr Shepperson has made arrangements with Mr Hoskins for an exchange of places, whereby the Burlesque Company will perform in the Princess’s Theatre, Dunedin, and the Hoskins’ Dramatic Troupe will come here and play in the Music Hall, This has been found necessary in order to allow the Lingards to perform in Christchurch, as, until the new Theatre is finished, there is no other place available where they could produce their novelties. It is not unlikely that Mr Hoskins and troupe will remain at the Music Hall until the completion of the new Theatre, when, in that case, the Burlesque Troupe will stay in Dunedin aud return here in about three months’ time, when they will again meet with a hearty reception. We feel glad that such au arrangement has been made, as it would have been a great pity that such artistes as the Lingards should have been allowed to depart from New Zealand without displaying their talents in Christchurch, as their fame is so well known all over the world. We wish both Messrs Shepperson and Hoskinsjevery success in their enterprise and hope they will meet with the support to whicli they are so justly entitled as caterers for the public in the way of amusement.
