MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRIST,CHURCH. Friday, August 18. [Before G. L. Lee, and J. T. Brown, Esqrs, J.P’s. J Drunk and Disorderly,— Bridget Ferrick, charged with drunkenness, was fined ss. Larceny of Jewellery,— Thos Alfred Hassall and William Cassidy were ’charged on remand with stealing a quantity of jewellery at Wellington, the property of A. J. Durham. Inspector Feast asked for a further remand of eight days as the prosecutor, who is a traveller, was at present at Riverton. The prisoner Cassidy addressing the Bench said he had already been imprisoned for sixteen or seventeen days for only selling one or two pieces of jewellery at the request of another man. Others who were now at large had done the same thing. When he tried to sell the articles he had no idea that they had been stolen. The Bench said they could not at present go into the case. Remanded for eight days.
