BEPORTED WRECK OFF KAIKORA.
The schooner Elizabeth, Captain Goodman, from Mercury Bay, arrived in harbor yesterday. Captain Goodman reports leaving on August 3rd, with a fresh S.W breeze. On the 6th. off Portland Island, spoke the brigantine Aureole, from Newcastle, ' New South Wales, bound to Napier. The Aureole was in great distress, a heavy sea having struck her when off Cape Palliser six days previously, and carried away her main boom, gaff, and mainsail, •fove in her decks, and started all her water casks; luckily there was some beer aboard, which racy had used till falling in with the Elizabeth. Having supplied the Aureole with a cask of water, the Elizabeth proceeded on- her course, experiencing strong westerly winds till arrival off the Kaikouras on August 11th. , There she met with a heavy •ootherly gale, and had to lay too. drifting back to within twenty miles of Cape Palliser. Made (he Kaikouras again on August 16th, and at 4 p.m that day Amuri Bluff, bearing W. half N. twenty miles distant, sailed close past the hull of a small vessel floating bottom upwards. She appeared to be about 50ft on the keel, had been newly coppered, and her rudder had been unshipped, but no name was visible. The Elizabeth arrived in harbor at noon to-day. The Clematis, ketch, 67 tons. Captain Clark, bound from Auckland to Timaru, sailed from this port (into which she came to repair her mainsail, which had been split off Napier on July 19th) on July 29th. Nothing has since been heard of her, and it is thought the vessel seen by Captain Goodman will probably prove to be her.
