Girls’ High School. —At the meeting of the College Governors yesterday, a telegram was read from the chairman of the Board stating that £2OOO had been granted, in addition to the £3OOO already given, for the Girls’ High school. Under these circumstances the committee have made arrangements for a conference with the Provincial Architect to arrange for new plans, to harmonise with the College buildings, St Mark’s, OpAWA.— This church has recently been enlarged by the erection of a south transept. The work has been well carried out by Messrs England under the superintendence of Mr Marley. The question of the legal adviser to the Board being selected from amongst the \ members of the Board, was brought up and discussed at some length. Ultimately it was resolved that as a general such a course was not advisable. The resignation of Mr Reader as librarian was received and accepted with an expression of recognition of his long services. Public Buildings.— We learn that the Provincial Executive have decided to purchase the quarter-acre section at the southwest corner of Cathedral square, to complete the half-acre, over which area it was deemed advisable by the General Government the public buildings should at least extend, to render them suitable for existing requirements. It is stated that on learning the intention of the Provincial Government, the committee of the Chamber of Commerce at once telegraphed to Wellington, and it is not unlikely that some definite information as to when the erection of the buildings will be proceeded with, may be laid before the annual general meeting of the Chamber to be held this afternoon.
