MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, August 15. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq, R.M.) Wife Desertion.— Richard Searle wra charged on warrant with this offence. Accused had been released from prison on the 10th instant, having been imprisoned for one mouth on the charge of beating his wife. He stayed at home for one night, and left next morning, and had not returned home since. Accused said he had gone to look for work and said be had no intention of deserting lus wife. He desired to support both her and his family. His Worship adjourned the case for a month. Drunk and Disorderly,— Two inebriates who appeared for the first time were each fined ss, Jane McMahon was find 20s, Stealing; from a Wreck. Joseph Kilpin was charged on warrant with stealing a quantity of timber from the ketch Jupiter, lying on the Nevy Brighton beach. When arrested accused admitted to Sergeant Beck that the timber on his premises had been taken from the wreck. On the application of Sergeant Pratt the case was adjourned until Wednesday, for the production of further evidence. LYTTELTON. Tuesday, August 15. [Before W. Donald, Esq,, R.M.] Drunkenness.— William Loveday, alias Pemberton, arrested by Constable Johnson, was fined 20a.
