The Taranaki, s.s., arrived from the North at 10.30 a.m., to-day. She sails for Akaroa and Port Chalmers this afternoon. The Mary Ann Annison arrived this morning from Newcastle. The Unity, ketch, bound from Pelorus Sound to Oamaru, with timber, put in here this morning in distress. Her stancheons covering board are started, and she has lost boat, bulwarks, and most of her sails, in the late southerly gale. A brigantine from the North was signalled this morning. YESTERDAY'S. Beharrel and Co, Gilmour, De Veaux. The signal staff was quite lively yesterday afternoon with the number of vessels signalled. The ship Wairoa hence, and the brigantine Mary King, from Greymouth, arrived at the Bluff on the 2nd. The Bchooner Cissy, Captain Bayldon, arrived last night, and anchored oil' the breakwater. Heports leaving Kaipara on July 23rd, with hard N.K. gale, hove to for two days, thence to Cape Fgmont light easterly weather, after which there was a strong S.E. blow, and she ran into Port Hardy for shelter on the 30th. On August Ist got under weigh again with a westerly breeze, and came to an anchor under Maud with a S.E. breeze. Mado another start next morning, and passed Cape Campbell that night. Was hove to witli a strong S.W. on Saturday and Sunday last; tince then easterly weather to arrival. The s.s Hawea, Captain Wheeler, arrived from Port Chalmers at 10.30 a.m. yesterday morning, and was berthed at the Gladstone Pier. We learn from Mr Newman, the purser, to whom we are indebted for files, that she left Port Chalmers at 3 p.m. on Monday, and had easterly weather to arrival as above. Discharged 25 tons, and loaded 35 tons cargo, sailing North at 4 30 p.m. last night. The ship City of Dublin was towed into a berth at the Gladstone fier by the Titan yesterday afternoon. The French barque Arrogante, Captain Arnaud, arrived from Newcastle yesterday, with a cargo of coal, consigned to P. Laurie. She has had a stormy passage of eighteen days.
