{From a correspondent of the Press.) TIMAKU, July 28. A fire broke out at three o'clock this morning in the office of Messrs Gedye and White, coal merchants. The framework of the building was of wood, and the covering of iron, the dimensions being ten feet by twelve. The alarm was given shortly after the fire broke out, but before the brigade arrived the building was nearly down. It stood about 4ft from B. Beece's ironmongery store, and the fire not only greatly endangered this building, but did considerable injury to the stock. As soon as possible after the fire wss observed, water was poured on Mr Recce's building, by buckets, supplied from a tank on the premises. Notwithstanding strong efforts, the woodwork of the building, which was covered with galvanised iron, caught fire, and the heat was so great as to unsolder a quantity of tinware and melt other material. The injury in Mr Reece's building was caused by the water. Nothing was saved from Messrs Gedye and White's office, the stock comprising the papers that had accumulated since they commenced business. Mr fleece is the heaviest loser. He is insured, but Messrs Gedye and White are not. A stove was left alight in the office the previous evening, and the fire is Bupposed to have originated from it,
