{Some News.) The Derby Stakes of 60 sovs each, h ft, for three-year-olds; colts, Bst 101 b; fillies, Bst slb ; the owner of the second horse to receive 300 sovs, and the third 150 sovs out of the stakes. About a mile and a half (starting at the new High-level starting post) 229 subs. Mr A. Baltazzi’s Kisber, by Buccaneer — Mineral, Bst 101 b ... (Maidment) 1 Mr R. Peck’s Forerunner, Bst 101 b (F. Webb) 2 Mr R. Peck’s Julius Caesar, Bst 101 b (T. Cannon) 3 Followed by All Heart, Bay Wyndham, Father Claret, Skylark, Great Tom, and seven others. Betting—2 to I agst Petrarch, 7to 2 agst Kisber, 100 to 15 each agst Forerunner and Skylark, 100 to 12 agst All Heart, 25 to 1 agst Great Tom, 100 to 3 agst Hardrada, Julius Caesar, and Wild Tommy, 40 to 1 agst Bracconnier, 50 to 1 agst Coltness, and 66 to 1 each against Bay Wyndham and Wisdom. Within a few minutes of the time for the start the fifteeen runners emerged from the paddock, Skylark and his stable companion showing the way, they being immediately followed by Coltness, Wisdom, Hardrada, Kisber, Wild Tommy, then Lord Roseberry’o three, with All Heart in front, and the favorite with the Russley pair, Advance being the last of all. The first four off at a moderate pace were Kisber, the favorite, Coltness, and Father Claret, who were followed by Forerunner and Hardrada, but before going a furlong the favorite and Kisber were pulled back, and this move left Father Claret in front as they neared Sherwood’s, he being followed by Coltness and Hardrada, while in the last-named’s track came Wisdom and Petrarch, clear of Great Tom and Skylark, then in a cluster, the Eussley pair, with Braconnier and Kisber, who had some difficulty in settling down, the rear lot here comprising Advance, Bay Wyndham, and All Heart, and before reaching the City and Suburban post Bay Wyndham was several lengths in the rear of all. Before reaching the distance Wisdom had dropped back, and Skylark had also failed when called on to make up his ground. Kisber, mean while, rushed up to Petrarch, and wrested the lead from him just below the distance, and as Lord Dupplin’s colt was at once in trouble the issue was beyond doubt. Opposite the stand Petrarch was passed also by Julius Cmsar and Forerunner, the latter a few strides from home getting in front of his stable companion, but not within hail of Kisber, who without ever being asked to gallop won by five lengths, Julius Caesar being three lengths behind Forerunner and clear of the favorite, who was a moderate fourth. Then came Skylark,' Coltness, Wisdom, Great Tom, and Wild Tommy, in the order given, while Braconnier headed Advance, Hardrada, and All Heart, who were the last three, Bay Wyndham and Father Claret not passing the post.
