The Customs revenue collected on Thursday «u as follows £ s. d.
There has been such a small amount of business done this week in the grain market that we can do little more than repeat last quotations. Wheat continues firm at 4s 2d, and some holders are asking 4s 3d to 4s 4d for choice milling samples, but we hare not heard of any sales at the latter figures. Oats are without change and dull of sale at Is Bd, good milling is 9dj buyers are however not desirous of operating to any extent at these quotations, and at sellers are equally indisposed to accept less, little business Is consequently being done. Good barley continues in favor wtjh maltsters at 3s 9d to 4s; Inferior quality unsaleable. Millers’ quotations for flour are unaltered, at £lO 10s, in sacks; exports brisk. Owing to the very large quantity of potatoes offering, and which will have to be sold at some time, prices are becoming weak, and buyers now oiler 37s 6d to 40s; Dairy produce meets with less enquiry, and prices are gradually receding; for prime butter we quote 11-Jd to Is; cheese, 8d; bams and bacon are in excellent demand at 9d bare, and 9Jd In cloth. Business has been fairly brisk in the import markets during the past week. Dried fruits (currants) have been sold freely in wholesale parcels at 4£d ; several parcels have been taken up to arrive at this figure; trade sales have been made at 4Jd to sd. Muscatels are quitted at sultanas, Bd. Several lots of Cameron’s diamond brand kerosene have been booked to arrive at Is G|d to Is Id, i.b. Apollo Candles—This brand is coming into favor here, 200 boxes (in one line) have been sold to arrive at 10£d; Price’s are quitted at lo|d to IOJd. In spirits, we have not much to report beyond trade sales; Swalne Boord’s case old tom has been sold at 14s 6d; good second brands of brandy have met with ready sale at 6s to 6s 6d, i.b.; several lots of Dunville’s case and bulk whiskey are going into stock; the market at present is fairly supplied with these lines for some time to come. Bottled Stoat.— Large sales have been recorded in this line at 11s 3d to 12s; Tennent’s ale has been quitted In lots of 20 to 30 cases, at lls 3d to 11s 6d. Trade ■ales have been made in Raven, Venus, and Cable twists tobaccoes, at Is 8d to is 9d, 18. A line of American clothes pegs have been sold, to arrive, at Ss. Morton’s pint pickles—Sales of 20 to 50 cases have been made at 9s 4d to 9s 6d. Red herrings are In great request at 34s to 355. Coleman’s white and blue starch has been quitted at 4Jd, to arrive. Galvanized Iron—The market at present is fairly stocked with iron; several lots ot G. O. have been taken up at £3l to £3l 10s per ton. Tasmanian timber, &c.—The cargoes ex Italy and Pet, Irom Hobart Town, were sold by public auction on Monday, when the following prices were realised : —los 6d to 15s 6d for sawn timber ; sft palings, 15s to 16s 3d per 100; 6ft do, 15s to 17s 6d per 100 ; and shingles, 15s 6d to 18s per 1000. Sugars—The Prince Alfred arrived from Mauritius on the 11th Inst, with 200 tons of sugar for this market; stocks will now be fully ample until arrival of new crop. We have only trade sales to report at full rates.
