AMUSEMENTS.
THE LYDIA HOWARDE TROUPE. A crowded house again assembled at the Hall last night to witness the burlctta of "The Waterman," and the reproduction cf "Chilperic." As Tom Tug, Miss Howarde sang and actqd the part admirably. Her rendering of that old favorite pong, "The Bay of Biscay," was excellent, and it was redemanded ; at its conclusion the fair singer •? came in for a most enthusiastic recognition at the hands of the audience. She also sang " Farewell, my trim built wherry," in a most finished and pleasing style. Wilhelmina found an able exponent in the hands of Miss Jennie Nye, the part being one well suited to display the versatile powers of this young lady. Mr Power, as Mrs Bundle, was exceedingly good, the make up being immense, while Mr Walter Hill, as Robin, and Mr Heiberte as Mr Bundle, were both at home in their respective parts, although the latter was suffering from a severe cold. The piece was a decided success, and should command good houses. "Chilperic" followed, and was played even better than on previous occasions; Mißa Howarde, as the dashing monarch, appearing more at home than ever in her pouitrayal of the character, and her singing of "One gentle heart" was quite a treat in itself. Miss Nye, as Fredegonda, and Miss Navaro, as Landry, both eclipsed their former endeavors to please. Mr Power's Chamberlain was as funny as ever, whilst Messrs Gary as the Druid, and Mr Alexander as Dr Senna were both at home in their parts, although suffering from the prevailing epidemic, bad colds. The rest of the characters were, as before, ably filled, and the music incidental to the piece, well rendered. The same programme will be given this evening.
