THE LYDIA HOWARDS TROUPE.

This company achieved a decided success in their representation of the traveatie “II Trovatore,” at the Canterbury Music Hall, last evening, and we were glad to see so overflowing an attendance. In addition to the well-known arias incidental to the opera, several others were appropriately and successfully introduced—“ The gallants of England,” by Mr Cary, and the “ Village Blacksmith,” by Mr Alexander, both gentlemen receiving well-merited applause. Undoubtedly the gem of the evening, however, was the “ Miserere,” and here we must pay a high tribute of praise to Mdlle Navaro for the fidelity with which she acted and sang the part allotted to her. Miss Howarde, as Manrico, can also be congratulated op the excellent rendering of this difficult part,' and her “make up” was superb. As the truculent Count Miss Nye almost surpassed herself, acting with a degree of vigor and singing her part in a manner which left nothing to be desired. Mr Bower, as the Gipsy Queen, is also worthy of commendation, his rendering of,the character, showing more fire than he has exhibited in his efforts hitherto. Altogether the performance was a pronounced success, and should have a prolonged run. The charming comedietta, “ The Loan of a Lover,” concluded a very agreeable evening’s entertainment.
