A man named Michael Conner, locked up for lunacy at Narrabi, rushed his keeper, and seized his revolver, shooting himseif dead. News from Hodgkinson River reports that the reefs are increasing in richness. The Edinburgh started yesterday from Darwin for the break. Cable communication will probably be resumed to-night or to-morrow. INTERPROVINCIAL. Auckland, July 3. Tbft City of San 'Francisco passed Napier without calling for mails or passengers. The mail agent entered a protest. The alleged reason for not calling was the rough weather. In the Supreme Court, *he Judge in his charge commented strongly on the committal of Captain Morris on a charge of bribery in the East Coast election, on the unsupported testimony of one witness, and directed the grand jury to throw out the bill. Napier, July 3. The steamer City of San Francisco not calling here created much disappointment. Several through passengers and the mails were left behind. There v» as no steamer in port to go after her, otherwise, by the City being detained twenty-four hours in Auckland, which the Government were able and willing to do, she might have been caught. Wellington, July 3. At the caucus of Opposition members held to day twenty-nine were present, but no West Coast members. It was decided not to interfere with the Imprest Supply Bill. A general discussion took place upon the position of affairs, and when the meeting broke up there was a tacit understanding that no particular line of action would be resolved on till after considering the financial statement. The limes denies the etatement that Captain Waddle told their port reporter that the City of San Francisco touched in coming in last time. The departure of the Suez mail is detained till to-mowow. The Supreme Court criminal sittings are on, but nothing of special interest has transpired. {From a corespondent of the Press.) Wellington, July 3. Mr George McLean has joined the Ministry as Commissioner of Customs. The Opposition caucus to-day was attended by twentynine members, but this includes several who are inclined to support the Gevernment. The proposition to resist the Imprest Supply Bill met with no support, and it was decided to take no action till after the Government proposals are brought down. Mr Pyke has been installed as Government whip.
