The section of railway between Timaru and St Andrew’s station, near the Otaio, a distance of about thirteen miles, was opened to-day. There was no ceremony on the occasion. The manner in which the trains ran shewed that the section had been constructed in a very creditable style. The line is nearly finished to a point a short distance south of the Makikihi. Trains are running daily with material nearly to the river. It is anticipated that trains will be running the whole distance between Timaru and Waimate (twenty-nine miles) by September.
