EMPEROR WILLIAM’S VISIT TO QUEEN VICTORIA.

A Berlin correspondent, describing the Emperor William’s visit to Queen Victoria at Coburg on Easter Tuesday, says, “ His Majesty, at the advice of his physicians, had refrained, owing to a severe cold, from go ng to Baden-Baden, The great admiration felt by the Emperor for Queen Victoria is shown in many ways, especially by his great preference for all presents coming from her hand. His study in his Berlin palace is adorned with a life size portrait of the Queen, and even Babelsberg, his favourite castle, contains many recollections of England, such as pictures of parades and reviews in which he participated at the side of the Queen. With gratitude the Emperor also remembers the time when he, in 1848, then an exile, was so hospitably received at, Windsor. Immediately after his arrival at Coburg, the Emperor, the Crown Prince and Princess and their son drove in an open carriage to the palace to pay their respects to the Queen. The greeting of the two monarchs was a very hearty one. The Queen awaited her august guest at the foot of the staircase and escorted him to her apartments. After a stay of nearly half an hour the Emperor went to the ducal castle, where rooms were prepared for him. Dinner was served at the Queen’s residence ; at the termination of which the distinguished personages went to the theatre and were present at the performance of “ Santa Chiaria,” an opera composed by Duke Plrnest, after a libretto of Mrs Birch-Pfeiffer. The Queen stayed at homo. The Emperor and the other royal guests returned to tea at the palace, from whence they saw another torchlight procession, but this time arranged in honour of the German Emperor, The enthusiasm of the crowd assembled on the large square before the palace was unbounded when the Emperor at the side of the Queen appeared in the balcony to witness the illumination. After taking a hearty leave of the Queen, the Emperor departed next morning for Wiesbaden, where he intends staying till the arrival of the Emperor of Russia. On the following day the Queen also left Coburg to return to England, by way of Baden-Baden, where she once more visited the grave of her late step-sister. On her departure from Coburg she presented to the mayor 1000 thalers for the poor ; a like sum was given by her in Baden-Baden.
