The Cas toms revenue collected on Thursday ras as follows £ s. d.

The land sold at the Waste Lands Board on Thursday amounted to 2415 acres, realising £4890, situated in the following districts : A. B. V.

Business transacted In [the grain market during the week was on a very smali scale, the present unsatisfactory state of the outside markets offering little or no inducements to traders. The demand for wheat and local milling, though limited, continues good, and some' choice samples are reported as having fetched 4s 2d, but for ordinary quality we cannot quote over 4s- Oats continue to hang heavily, and latest Sydney telegrams advising values there at 2s 6d, have served to weaken the market further; for prime quality we to- day quote is 8d as top price. Good malting barley meets with a fair inquiry at 3s 6d to 3s 9d, inferior samples unsaleable. Millers report a good trade done at £lO 10s in sacks. Considerable quantities of potatoes have been offered at £2 ss, but as a rule farmers ask for higher prices than buyers care to offer for this article, and consequently little business has been done. Dairy produce is coming in more ireely, and prices are not so firm; for prime butter and cheese we quote Is Id and B|d respectively. Curers report hams and bacon in good request at 9d bare, and 9id in cloth, fob. In the import markets business has been dull during the week, and we have very few sales of note to report. Sugars continue to move off in trade parcels at our last quotations. The demand for medium congon has been fair, several parcels have been quitted at Is 4d to Is 5d i.b. Candles— Price’s Belmont Sperms have sold freely at IOJd to IOJd. De Koubaix and Co’s and Brandon’s have sold at lOd to IOJd d.p. American salmon has shewn activity,-fully 400 cases have been quitted at 8s 6d, 9s d.p. In spirits we have not much to report beyond usual trade sales. We hear of a parcel of Dunville’s case whiskey sold to arrive at price withheld, bulk is in good demand at 6s 3d to 6s 6d; case and bulk old Tom have sold at 14s 6d and 4s 9d i.b. Several inquiries have been made for good brands in stouts, sales have come under our notice in Coome’s and Blood Wolfe’s brands at lls 3d to lls 6d d.p. Tobacooes are extremely dull, sales are only made for actual requirements at fair rates. Cornsacks—The season is now all but passed for this Hue, a few small transactions have taken place at 10s to 10s 3d for Dundee make. Galvanized Iron —Several firms are holding for £3l 10s lor best brands; we have no sales of note to record. Cement is offering freely (now to hand and to arrive) at 19s per cask delivered in Christchurch. The ship Fernglen arrived from Wellington on the 9th instant, and is loading up quickly with wheat, wool, &c, for London. The ships Countess of Kintore and Waipa sailed for London on the loth inst, the former taking full cargo of wheat, and the latter wheat, wool, tallow, and gold. The ship Euterpe will be the next vessel for London, and will sail about 20th inst taking wheat, wool, tallow, &c.
