An old lady, over 70 years of age, was last evening assaulted by a man named Denny, one of the sailors of the Julius Vogel, who attempted to commit a rape upon her. Mrs Kyndon's screams brought her help, and the man, who was in drink, was arrested. Denny was brought up this morning, but Mrs Kyndon was too ill to attend the Ccuirt-.,.5n t.ho. case was remanded till Monday. The letter from the Hon Scotland to J. G. S. Grant is causing great excitement here. The Herald regrets that a man in the Hon Scotland's position should make himself so notorious as an endorser of such malignant falsehoods. The Superintendent has written to the Hon Scotland to ask if the telegram is correct. A meeting is likely to be held, asking the Governor to remove him from the Legislative Council.
