It is considered probable that the second charge against Messrs Stevenson and Sons will be abandoned.
Two passengers bj the Sumatra are supposed to be Fenian agents from England, and are suspected of being concerned in the Last, escape of the convicts from Western Australia, in the whaling vessel. Melbourne, June 7.
The Government hag declined to interfere in the Stevenson’s case, casting the responsibility of action on the Crown Land Officer and the Custom’s Department. Another prosecution will not be proceeded with. From private advices, the Lillywhite cricket team will be here before Christmas.
Open verdicts were returned in the recent ftres. It has transpired that Harper’s were insnred for £13,000.
