ROAD BOARDS.
AVON. The Board met on Monday, May 29th. Present—The chairman, and Messrs Dickenson, Wilson, and Philpott. The surveyor's report was read and considered. The clerk was instructed to write to the Drainage Board, asking if they are prepared to clear out Horner's drain, and if not, will they authorise the Board to do the work. Resolved—" That the drain on north side of Wiuter's road, from Borgfield's corner to Kruse's cross ditch, be cleaned out." " That notice be given to Mr Broughton that the Board require him to cut back the sod fence uow encroaching on the road." Mr Wilson, is one of a deputation, saw the Board with reference to the boundary drain, which requires cleaning, and also complaining of the water being dammed back, causing damage to the adjoining properties. The surveyor w<- a instructed to see to and report upon it, \ depulation saw the Board relative to the Irain on the upper part of the canal reserve. Resolved —"That the surveyor be instructed to see if anything can be done to it. Letters vVf re read from Dr Florence, reporting cases under his care. From the inhabitants of Orescent road, complaining of the drains being used for other than artesian water, rhe surveyor was instructed to see to the matter. From Mr W. Wilson relative to cu!v.ert across North road. Resolved— That the clerk be instructed to reply that the Board is not aware of the unsafe con-
dition of tho culvert, and that when the engineer requires the cu'vert lowered, and applies to the Board, pcransiioa wiil bo given bim to do so." From City Council asking the Avon Road Board if they will join them and other Boards in the purchase of a sterol road roller. The clerk was instructed to reply that this Board do not see their w*y to comply with the request. Mr Wild waited upon the Board and presented petition signed;by thirty-three residents relative to widening of Sawyer's Arms road Besolved—" Tint the chairman be requested to see if any funds are available for the purpose from Government." A letter was read from Mr Banks, asking if the Board would place a culvert across the side channel in front of his store. Resolved—" That the clerk be instructed to reply that permission will be given to Mr Banks to place a culvert at his own expense, under the bu pet vision of the surveyor to the Board." Tenders were accepted for Strange's road, New Brighton bridge approach, Hill'jj road, and a supply of shingle. Accounts to the amount of £295 17s Id were passed and ordered to be paid.
