Complaints having been made by several friendly societies that the new Friendly Societies Rill proposed to be introduced by the Government had not been forwarded to them, it has been ascertained that the cause is in those societies not having been registered, but it is understood that any society making application to the Minister of Justice, and giving the address, will receive copies, or any registered society requiring extra copies can also obtain them the same way. Mr Eliot, who was recently appointed inspector for New Zealand of the National Bank, has been reappointed to the managership of the Bank of Australasia in Melbourne.

The meeting of shareholders in the Greymouth Coal Company, held yesterday, was adjourned to Tuesday next, no business being transacted owing to the small attendance. . Sir John L. C. Richardson has resigned his seat in the Council of the University of Otago. Sir John was Vice-Chancellor many years. It is understood that the Hon Dr Menzies has also resigned.
