MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, May 29. [Before G. L. Lee, Esq., J.P.] Drunk and Disorderly. For this offence three persons were fined 5s each, it being their first appearance in Court. Wm. Grant, au old offender, was ordered to pay 20s ; George Brown, for being drunk and disorderly, and creating a disturbance in the public streets, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment; Morgan Harper, for rising obscene language in addition to being drunk, was fined 10s; while Mary Eden, who had previously figured before the Court, was mulct in the penalty of 10s. Larceny. George Rice, charged with larceny, was remanded till the 30th inst. Lunacy. Henry Allen, charged with lunacy brought on through drink, was remanded to Lyttelton for eight days. LYTTELTON. Monday, May 29, [Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.] Refusal of Duty and Abusive Language.—William Bass, charged by Captain Norris, of the schooder Fairlie, with the above offence, was fined 20s. Creating a Disturbance in a Public Place and Assault. —Albert Tutbury, a seaman on board the schooner Kate McGregor, was charged with the above offence, and fined 20s. Drunk and Disorderly on Board Ship. —John Rongbey was charged by Captain Norrie, of the ship Countess of Kintore, with this offence. Another charge, for destroying Government property, was heard against the prisoner. The Bench sentenced accused to seven days’ imprisonment with hard labour on the first charge, and two days’ additional on the second charge, with expenses ss.
