There were some heavy puffs from the N.W. at 1 a,m. on Sunday morning, and some ol the fenders at the Gladstone pier got a good squeezing- The Countess of Kintore had her chain plates rubbed a bit; no damage worth speaking of was done. The new schooner Minnihaha, from Auckland, and Transit, from Napier, arrived at Timaru on Saturday. We learn from Mr August Miller, for some time mate of the brigantine Flirt and the schooner Kate M'Gregor, has been appointed to the command of the schooner Maiden City, trading out of Lyttelton. "Auckland Herald." The brig Mayflower sailed late yetterday afternoon. The topsail schooner Elizabeth Curie arrived at Wellington on the 17th. On discharge of her cargo there, she proceeds to Havelock, at which place she will load a eargo of timber for this port. The barque Star Queen, 216 tons, has been char- i tered at New York to load for this port and Wellington. The clipper barque Farningham arrived at Adelaide on May 10th from this port; the Roderick Dhu, from Oamaru, arrived the day previous. The barques Adelphoi and Joliba have arrived at Newcastle from this port; the former on the 11th, and the other on the day previous. The barque Mary Aimison, Captain Hughes, took her departure for Sydney yesterday afternoon. She takes a cargo of grain and some passengers. The clipper schooner Alert, Captain Hays, sailed yesterday tor the Waitara. The ketch Emerald, Captain Whitby, arrived in port on Friday evening at 6 p.m. from liavelock. Reports leaving the Sound Heads at 9 a.m. on Wednesday in company with ihe schoonc Aspasia, also for Lyttelton. When off the Brothers spoke the new schooner Theresa, bound here. Had strongwesterly v.i.ids to within twenty miles of the lie ids, with heavy southerly sea ; thence a sudden shift to the S.E, which brought her to the Heads at 4 p.m, arriving as above. The American clipper barque Stillman B. Allan, Captain L. Taylor, arrived in harbor yesterday afternoon from Port Chalmers- It will be remembered that in our issue of the 6th we gave a full account of her passage from New York to Port Chalmers. Her cargo for this port is a very varied one, as will be seen by our import list. Captain Taylor reports leaving Port Chalmers on Friday morning with, a strong S.W. wind, which lasted all day, falling light on Saturday morning, when Banks' Peninsula was sighted; light ana baffling winds prevailed till the Heads were made same evening; beat up harbor yesterday against a westerly wind, anchoring off Rhodes' Bay. Messrs McMeckan and Blackwood's handsome s.s Albion, Captain J. W.. Clark, left Sydney at 4 p.m on the 10th inst for New Zealand and Melbourne, passed through Sydney Heads at 4.40, and arrived off Hokitika at -1 am on the 15th, having experienced tine weather with westerly breezes; transhipped passengers and cargo at 12 noon, and at 1 p.m proceeded on to Greymouth; arrived at 2.30 pm, and anchored for the night; embarked passengers at 2 p.m on 16th, and at 3 30 left for Nelson, and arrived at 12 noon 17th hist; left at 330 p.m 18th under easy steam, and arrived at Wellington at 7 am on 19th ; left at 4 p.m same day, and arrived at Lyttelton at 1 p.m on the 20th. Tha Albion on leaving Sydney had seven survivors of the ship Strathmore on board, three of which lr-ffc at Wellington, the rest go on to Dunedin. Their names are—James Knight, George Skidmore, George Ward, Thos. Standring, Joseph Ward, R. A. Wilson, Wm, Wilson. The Albion was moored at the Gladstone Pier. We are inlebted to Mr Jones, the purser, for files and reports. The Union Steamship Co's s.s Taupo, Captain Henry Worsp. left Ouehunga wharf at 3 a.m on Wednesday, the 17th inst, arrived at Taranaki 11 a.m the 18th; left at 12.30 p.m, i nd arrived at Nelson 4.30 a.m the 19th ; left same tide at 5.30, arrived at Picton 1 p.m ; left at 1.30, arrived in Wellington 7 p.m, left at 9 p.m, arrived at Lyttelton 2 45 p.m on Saturday. Strong gale from the S.F., with hea"y seas, from Manakau to Nelson, from thence to Wellington fine weather, thence to arrival here strong head winds. The Taupo took in 50 tons cargo, and sailed South at 10 p.m on Saturday. We have to thank Mr Ponsonby, the purser, for files and report. The New Zealand Steam Ship Company's s.s. Wellington, Captain Carey, arrived yesterday morning at 9.20 a.m. Reports leaving Port Chalmers at 6 35 on Saturday, and experiencing to Oamaru light fair wind, thence to arrival light head wind. The Wellington left Port Chalmers five minutes after the s.s. Otago, and arrived here and was moored at the Screw Pile Jetty an hour and twenty minutes before the Otago was moored at the Gladstone Wharf. Brings 30 tons cargo for this port, and sails North at 3 p.m; to-day. It will be seen by the above report that the steam yacht, as she is deservedly called, has not fallen off in her performances, having done the distance from Port Chalmers herein 16f hours, and half of the way against a head wind. Smart travelling that for an old ! boat! Messrs M'Meckan and Blackwood's steamer Otago, Captain Calder, arrived at the Port Chalmers Railway Pier at 7 a.m. on Friday last, 19th. She is from .Melbourne via Bluff, and left the Sandridge Railway Pier at 11 a m. on the 13th, cleared Port Phillip Heads at 2.30 p.m. and passed Wilson's Promontory at 11.30 p.m. S.E. winds and fine weather were in the ascendant, and held until the 16th, when the breeze veered to S.W, and increased to a hard gale with high sea. This weather continued during the remainder of the passage. On the 18th, at 4 a.m, she passed the Solauder, and arrived at the Bluff at 10 a.m.; discharged cargo, i and left at 7 p.m, with a furious S.W. gale, and carried it along the coast with much sea until arrival at Port Chalmers, where she discharged 160 tons cargo, leaving again for this port at 4.45 p.m. on the 20th, and arriving here yesterday at 10.45 a.m, having experienced light winds up the coast. The Otago brings 50 tons of cargo for this port, and is advertised to sail for Sydney via Wellington and West Coast to-day at s p.m. We are indebted to Mr Birch, the purser, for Melbourne and Southern exchanges and report. Messrs Hamilton and M'Lean have disposed of the steamer Halcyon. She has been purchased by Captain Tall, of Dunedin, and will leave on Wednesday or Thursday next. After being refitted at Dunedin she will be used as a trader between Riverton, Stewart's Island, and the Bluff. We wish this smart little steamer as much success in the future as she has had in the past. The Union chartered s.s. Wanganui left Port Chalmers at, 7 p.m. 19th instant ; arrived at Timaru 6.30 a.m. 20th; discharged and loaded 656 sacks grain for s.s. Otago; left 7.15 p.m, arriving at Akaroa 6.30 a.m. 21st; discharged and left at 9.30 a.m., araving at Lyttelton at 2.45 p.m. yesterday. She was moored alongside the s.s. Otaeo at the Gladstone Pier to discharge her grain. We thank Mr Latimer for report. The New Zealand Shipping Company have received news of the safe arrival at home of one of those three ships that sailed from this port on Sunday, January 23rd. The Waitanga reached London some time before April 20th, the date at which the telegram was sent, and thus must have accomplished the passage in about 86 or 87 days. We have received no information of the arrival of the Mcrope or Zealandia, the two other 6hips that sailed same day.
