Auckland, May 18. No steps have been taken with regard to the brigantineYaliala, although it was alleged the object of her cruise was slaving. She had not been engaged in that traffic before the accident occurred which caused her return to Auckland, Auckland, May 19. Markets—Mr Buckland reports fat cattle at 27s to 37s 6d per 100 lbs ; fat sheep, to 3d per lb. H.M.S. Barracouta has sailed for Fiji. Gbahamstown, May 19. John Grabble, a draper, and two other men, left in a boat on Monday for Coromandel. The boat has been found on the beach near Tapu, and the goods strewed along the beach, but there are no signs of the men. Napier, May 18. The escaped prisoner Symonds was captured this morning on the premises of Mr Tiifen, when he was attempting to rob the larder. He had a heavy stick with which he struck his captors (Mr Tiffen’s gardener, and a gentleman staying in the house). He was handed over to the p lice, and was taken back to the gaol. The gardener was rather badly hurt. Wellington, May 18. The Court of Appeal was occupied all day with the case Creyke v Dransfield, in which Mr Joynt endeavoured to show cause why the rule nisi, previously granted for a new trial, should not be made absolute. The Court is expected to conclude its sittings tomorrow. Wellington, May 19. Arrived—The Tui, from Kaikoura and Lyttelton. In the Court of Appeal the argument commenced in the case of Creyke v Dransfield, but judgment is reserved. Dunedin, May 18. lima De Murska’s company closed a highly successful season last night, and left for Oamaru this morning, en route for Timaxu and Christchurch. Dunedin, May 19. In the grain market wheat is in fair demand at 4s 6d; 4s 8d per bushel for good to prime, and 4s 2d to 4s 4d for inferior to ordinary milling; oats, seed, up to 2s per bushel for best milling, and Is lOd for good feed; prime malting barley, from 4s 6d to 4s 9d per bushel. Port Chalmers, May 18. Arrived—Schooner Floral Star, from Ade laide. She reports encountering a terrifi westerly gale after passing the Solanders or the 1 (sth, which stove in part of her bul warke and boats and smashed the galley. Her cargo is rice and castor oil.
