The U.S.S. Co's s.s Beautiful Star, Captain Pieterson, arrived in harbor at 5 a.m yesterday. She reports leaving Dunedin at 7 p. m on Tuesday, arrived at Timaru ,7 a.m next day; left 2 p.m, arrivingas above. ' Experienced fair wealher on the run down. She left on her return trip yesterday afternoon at 4 p m. ' The brigantine Seagull, Captain Robertson, arrived here yesterday from Dunedin witli timber, reports leaving on Sunday morning last, and having strong S.W wind to Timaru, thence light variables to arrival.

The New Zealand Steam Shipping- Co's s.s Taranaki is to be fitted with compound engines as soon as they arrive from Home. The engines and boiler are in the Horsa, which left Glasgow for Port Chalmers on the 13th March.—" Daily Times." The ship Pomona is out to about 100 ton* Qfear&oj weight and measurement, besides con sign mints for Lytteltou. She is now ballasting, and has shipped about 200 tons of the 690 tons she is to take here.— "Daily Times." The fine brigantine Mary Campbell arrived in harbor on Wednesday night. Reports leaving the Grey River on the 10th inst, and having northerly winds and rain for three days, after which there was a nor' wester, which blew hard for tweni y-four hours; Cook's Straits were passed on SuLdav the 14th, and thence to arrival had light baffling winds. Anchored at the heads on Wednesday evening, on account of a heavy gale setting in from the West. The vessel brings about 100 tons of coal and coke consigned to P. Cunningham and Co, would have loaded more, but as there was only 9ft 4in water on the Grey Bar, could not do so with safety. The splendid s.s Hawea, Captain Wheeler, arrived in harbor yesterday morning at a. 45. Keports leaving Port Chalmers at 3.50 p m on Wednesday, and having line weather, with light southerly.winds, to arrival as above. The Hawea Bailed for northern ports yesterday afternoon at 3.30 p m. The brigantine and schooner coming up the harbor last night proved to be the Mary Campbell and Hannah Barrett, instead of the Jane Hannah and Aborigine. The barque Nonpareil arrived from Newcastle yesterday, after a smart passage of twelve days. Reports leaving Newcastle on the 6th with a N.E. wind and rain, which lasted till Stephen's Island was sighted on Sunday last. Ran through the Straits with a fair westerly breeze as far as Wellington Heads, and thence had light variable winds and fine weather to arrival at the Heads on the lrtb, anchored at night, and ran up the harbor yesterday. The steamer Easby, Captain Kennedy, arrived in harbor and anchored oil' the Breakwater at 12.45 p.m. yesterday. Reports clearing Sydney Heads at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, 9th instant, and experiencing northerly winds for first two days, afterwards S. W. and westerly breezes and fine weather to arrival at Wellington at 0.30 a m. on the 16th ; left again at 3.15p.m. on Wednesday, arriving as above; sailed for Port Chalmers yesterday afternoon. We have to thank Captain Kennedy for Sydney and Wellington files. The schooner Hannah Barrett, Captain F. Renwer, arrived from Pelorus Sound on Wednesday flight. Reports leaving on Saturday, and experiencing strong northerly gale for eighteen hours, thence baffling winds to arrival as above. The Heads were sighted on Monday night. Spoke the Elizabeth Curie, for Wellington, about 50 miles N.E. df Lyttelton. She wished to be reported. The regular trading barque, Natal Queen, Captain Rapp, was sigualled yesterday morning, and anchored off' the breakwater at l p.m. yesterday. Reports leaving Hobart Town on the 6th, at noon, and cleared Cape Hilar at 2 a.m on 7th, and had variable winds across, making the Solander on Sunday last, at 2 a.m., and Dunedin Heads at midnight same day. with strong westerly breeze, thence had northerly and westerly;winds to Banks' Peninsula, which was made on Tuesday night, thence light variables and calms till the Heads were made at daylight yesterday, when she ran up the harbor before a light easterly wind. Brings a cargo of timber, jams, fruit, palings, and shingles, consigned to P. Cunningham and Co, and Meyers Bros. We are sorry to hear that this is Captain Rapp's last visit to this port, in command of the Natal Queen, as he resigns at end of trip.
