LYTTELTON. Monday, Mat 15, Present—His Worship the Mayor, Ors McDonald, W. Giaharn, H. Allwright, B, Graham, P. Cunningham, and H. Hawkins. The minutes having been read, the clerk stated he had received £195 16s 2d since last meeting. Correspondence was read— From the secretary for the Treasury, enclosing a cheque for £B3 15s Bd, amount of additional grant for the borough. Prom Mr C. Cuff, regarding the survey of Captain McLellan’s section on the bndlePa After discussion it was resolved—“ That Captain McLellan be written to, informing him that the information requested by hitoi in his original letter on the subject had been supplied by Mr Cuff.” , From Mr Malcolmson rt ditch cut through the Borough Council’s property. It was resolved that the Borough Solicitor sheuld answer Mr Malcolmson, informing him that the Council do not recognise any liability in the matter. From Messrs Ratoliflfe and Field, applying to lease part of section between enginehouse and pound. Resolved that they be written to informing them that the Council do not wish at present to let the land in question. From Mr McGowan, informing the Council that he was going to reside in Christchurch, and wished to be excused his Lyttelton rates. The application was not granted, the rate being due on May Ist. From Mr Robert Cullen, requesting a reduction in his rate. It was resolved that he be written to, Stating that the rate could not be altered, the time for appeal having passed. A copy of the Timaru Borough Council Building Bye-laws was laid on the table. The foreman of works’ report was then read. It ran as follows:—“ A number of the town lamps have been wantonly broken by boys throwing stones. I would suggest that a reward should be offered for the apprehension of the offenders, so as to bring them to justice, as at the rate that they have been broken this last month it would cost the town £lO to keep them in repair for the winter.” Or Cunningham said the attention of the police should be called the boys using what were called Shanghai’s in Lyttelton. As he was standing opposite Mr Hawkins’ store the other day he saw some boys aiming at the windows in the roof of his store, and the practice of throwing stones was getting universal, the boys aiming at anything within their reach. It was resolved that a reward of £1 be advertised in the Globe and Star for the conviction of any of the offenders, and that ths police be requested to endeavor to stop the practice. Respecting the selling of Calo’s house, his Worship said that he thought the property could be disposed of privately. Accounts were passed amounting to £IBO 15s 2d.

Cr Cunningham said the lighting committee recommended that the lighting the lamp in front of Wesleyan Chapel be discontinued for the present. > In answer to Cr Cunningham the solicitor ■aid that the rates due for 1875 could be recovered from the freeholders. Cr Cunningham moved—“ That the clerk be instructed to bring up a list of the unpaid rates of 1875 at next meeting.” Tenders were opened for removing clay from St David street, and Mr Illingworth’s accepted for £lO 10s.
