# [By Submarine Cable.] Sydney, May 13. Hennesay’a brandy, case, 80s to 30s 6d ; quarts, 7s 3d, and very firm. Kerosene, easier, Is 6d in bond. Rice, unaltered. Wheat, ss, Oats, 2s 6d to 2s 9d. The arrivals from New Zealand to-day are likely to affect the market. Brisbane. May 13. Eighty-six diggers from Cooktown have been imprisoned fourteen days for illegally obtaining passages. Many look as if they had suffered severe hardships on the Palmer diggings. Nearly 600 diggers have returned from the rush to Townsville. INTEBPROVINCIAL. Wellington, May 15. A Scandinavian named Oarsen, at the Forty Mile Bush, apparently insane, armed himself with a pickaxe and a billhook and ran amuck amongst the people about. He severely injured several women and children, and he threatened to kill his mate, after having him tied up in the bush for two days, a Mrs Dydersen having had a narrow escape from the maniac, her husband took his gun, and meeting Carsen, the latter said he would kill him. Dydersen immediately shot him dead. At the inquest a verdict of “ Justifiable homicide” was returned. Nelson, May 15. Mr Frank Simmons, the head master of Nelson College, died suddenly last night. He had been suffering for some time from rheumatic fever, but was very l, much better, and went on Saturday to Foxhill, where he was found dead in his bed this morning. Hokitika, May 15, noon. The s.s Albion, from Sydney, is in the roadstead, and is now being tendered. [FROM a correspondent.] Dunedin, May 15. lima de Murska-Anderson has just been married to Mr John Hill, the pianist, at half-past two o’clock.
