The Government has telegraphed to New Zealand with reference to the last visit made lo the Auckland Islands, with the view of ascertaining the possibility of any of the Strathnaver's passengers and crew being there. The Customs authorities are satisfied with Messrs Stevenson's explanation regarding the hosiery. INTEBPROVINCIAL. Napier, May 11. At the inquiry regarding the wreck of the brigantine Helen off the Bast Coast, the master and mate were examined. Their evidence will be forwarded to Wellington, accompanied by a report of the court that the vessel was lost by striking on a rock not marked on the chart. The master's certifi-
cate was returned. Mr Sealy, R.M., Mr Smith, nautical assessor and collector of customs, were present. New Plymouth, May 11. At the meeting of the shareholders of the Titanic Steel Company, Mr Matheson suggested that Mr Smyth be sent to Wellington to attend the meeting there, and moved : " That without delay a thoroughly skilled and practical man, accustomed to blast furnaces, be brought from Europe to blow in the furnace and make a thorough trial; meanwhile that all expenditure be reduced to lowest possible limits." Several present urged that steps be taken to push on a trial as quickly as possible, if not to sell the works for what they would fetch. The resolution was carried. Dunedtn", May 12. In the grain market, wheat is firm at 4s 6d to 4s 8d ; inferior milling to ordinary, 4s 2d to 4s sd; oats are in good request at Is 9d to Is lOd for ordinary to good feed, and 2s for prime milling.
