ROAD BOARDS.
KOWAI. A meeting of this Board was held at the Bead Board Office, Balcairn, on Monday, May Ist. Members present: Messrs U If. Pemberton (chairman), Francis Croft-, j. K. Pawhpv and A. McDonald. The balance to the of the Board at the Union Rank of Australia, Bangiora, amounted to £IBO Is 6d Resolved, “That Mr Garrick’s opinion be obtained with reference to Mr FeudallV objections.” Correspondence: A letter was received from Mr 0. O’Malley, trustee in the estate of the late John Smith, of Brown s Bridge, giving the Board notice that he intended to fill up » drain on the road, by Wattie’s, such not being a natural water course. The Board, on referring back to past minutes, did not consider it necessary to take any steps in the matter. Various other correspondence was read. Messrs T. Hanna, J. Dick, T. Wilson, and S. Wilson waited upon the Board with reference to the clearance of the Government creek, Mount Grey road. A tender received from S- Wil ■on, sen., was laid before them. The Board requested them to state if they would concur in the acceptance of the tender, and be responsible for the amount over and above the sum of £25 granted by the Board to carry out the work nquired, An answer being given in the affirmative, the surveyor was directed to draw out the necessary agreement. Mr S, Wilson attended Board, and requested permit sion to take shingle out of reserves 376 and 286 on the Sefton road. Permission was granted to Mr Wilson, to pay the usual price. Mr Ashworth waited upon the Board and presented a petition signed by thirteen ratepayers, requesting the Board to put in two culverts on a bye road between his section and Mr J . Thompson’s. The surveyor stated that he had examined the place in question, and until the watercourse was cleared through Mr Thompson’s section, and the bank thrown up by Mr Thompson across the said watercourse was removed, it would be useless to place in any culverts. The surveyor was instructed to inquire more fully into the matter and take the necessary steps to obviate the difficulty. The chairman stated that he bad insured the Board office, furniture, and outbuildings for £225, and the immigrants’ cottages for £3OO. The surveyor was instructed to have the hills by Bruere’s, A. Wilson’s, and R. Clark’s reduced at once. Also to give a full report on all necessary works at next meeting. The pay sheet, amounting to £174 6s 7d, was then examined and passed for payment, The Board then adjourned.
