ROAD BOARDS.
RICCARTON, The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Saturday, at the office, Cashel street west. Present —Messrs Hall (chairman), Nun week, Patterson, and Gregg. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Post-master-General, Wellington, enclosing cheque for the balance of General Government grant for the year 1875 6, being 13s 4d in the & on the amount of rates collected. Mr Turner’s letter of April Ist, relative to clearing the Styx, was reconsidered, and it was resolved, “ That the river be cleared from the boundary of the drainage district through rural section No 357 (about ten chains),” A letter was received from the Avon Road Board, agreeing to pay one-half the cost of repairs required on the Millrace road, and leaving the matter in the hands of the Board. A letter was read from the Templeton Read Board, enclosing cheque for payment of half cost of maintaining the boundary roads, and suggesting that the Kaiapoi and Prebbleton junction road be formed its full width from the Coaltrack to the Fendaltown road, and agreeing to pay half cest thereof. The Board considered that it would be advisable to form the road as suggested by the Templeton Board, and to continue the foimation to the river-bed by Chisnall’s; and the surveyor was directed to invite tenders for the work. It was resolved to levy a rate, at the next meeting of the Board, of Is in the &, on the rateable property of the district, and the clerk was directed to prepare the rate list in accordance with clause 18 of the Road Amendment Ordinance. The chairman reported that the engineer for the Drainage Board had inspected all the main drains and water courses in the district, with a view to their future maintenance by the Drainage Board. The surveyor’s report was read, and it was resolved —“That the culvert now crossing the Sawyers’ Arras road referred to therein be removed i also that the Mill Race road be repaired with gravel.” The surveyor reported that the new office at Riccarton would be completed by the end of the month, and ready for the next ordinary meeting. It was resolved —“ That the next and future meetings of the Board bo held at the office, Ham road, Riccarton.” After passing accounts, the Board adjourned until the 3rd of Jim
LINCOLN. A meeting of this Board was held at the office, Prebbleton, on the 4th instant. Present : Messrs J. N. Tosswill (chairman), Leadley, and Maskrey. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, The surveyor reported that he had passed F. Holmes’ forming upon Perryman’s road, as also Payne’s forming upon Gerken and Crook’s road, and that the work in both cases was very satisfactory. With regard to the gully at Philip Clark’s, the surveyor was instructed to take such steps as he may deem best towards removing the nuisance complained of. With reference to Mr Carfjenter’s drain, the surveyor was directed to □form him that the Board would clean out the same upon his fencing his land on both sides of the drain, or the Board would cleanse the drain upon his contributing half the cost. In reply to a letter from Mr R. Bilcock relative to Blackler’s drain, it was decided that he should be informed that the Board would cause slips and obstructions in the drain to be removed. The following correspondence was read;—From the Hon E. W. Stafford, relative to the clearing of the tramway drains, and complaining that the drain on the west side of the road was being destroyed by Mr Knight’s cattle. The surveyor stated that he had written to Mr Stafford, informing him that the work was in progress. He was instructed to write to Mr Knight, drawing his attention to the damage complained of. From the Halswell Road Board, in reply to a letter from the Lincoln Road Board, stating that the Board would give £SO towards the erection of a bridge at Nutt’s From the Resident Engineer, Christchurch, re gorse on racecourse and Southbridge railway, stating that the matter had been referred to the Railway Engineer, From the Springs Road Board, informing the Board that it is their intention to make certain repairs on the Ellesmere Junction road, A memorandum from the Chief Postmaster, Christchurch, was read, pointing out that letters directed to the Board were frequently delayed owing to their not being properly addressed, and that the word 11 Prebbleton” should invariably form part of such address. In order to obviate this difficulty for the future the surveyor was directed to write to his Honor the Superintendent, pointing out that letters addressed to the Board frequently went astray, and requesting that the name of the district be changed from Lincoln Road District to Prebbleton Road District. The surveyor laid upon the table the rate list for the current year, which he had prepared ; the chairman having affixed his signature thereto, the Board proceeded to make and levy a rate of sixpence in the pound upon all the rateable property in the district. The surveyor was directed to advertise the striking of the above rate. The pay sheet, amounting to £125 17s Id, having been passed for payment, the Board adjourned, TEMPLETON. An adjourned meeting of this Board took Place at the Road Board office, Yaldhurst, on Monday, May Bth. Present—Messrs Bailey (chairman), Carpenter, Delamain, Jones, and Sinclair. The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, a letter was toad from the Spreydon Road Board in teply, stating that the Board were of opinion that the portion of the Great South road referred to by the Templeton Board, is iu sufficiently good repair, and does not feel justified in spending money where it is not actually required. Tenders were then opened for the formation of fifty chains of the Bealey road, commencing at the cross road by Mr W. A. Gray’s, and running westerly, and one accepted. The surveyor’s report upon the various works requiring to be carried out was then taken inlo consideration, when the Board decided to advertise for tenders for next Board day, for the formation of 110 chains of road from Perry’s corner to the intersection with the Prebbleton ae.d Kaiapoi Junction road, at the back of the Yen Archdeacon Wilson’s land; and also for the formation of about sixty chains of Buchannan’s road, commencing at the intersection with the Jiealey road, and running in a north-westerly diiec tion to the intersection with the West Coast road, near Lean’s. The Board then decided to put down a lOin pipe culvert at the SoUth-west corner of the Racecourse to carry off the storm water. The formation of a portion of Sinclair’s road then came under discussion, the Board deciding to let the blatter stand over until next meeting for the Surveyor to report upon. ! The paysheet having been adopted and patssed, the meetihg adjourned.
