MAGISTRATES' COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, May 8. [Before G. L. Lee, Esq:, J.P.] Drunk and Disorderly.-?-An inebriate who appeared for the first offence, was fined 5s ; but the following persons all being old offenders, were fined much more heavily:— Johanna Conner, alias Gallagher, 20s ; Richard Harper, 20s ; Henry Cunningham, 20s ; and Michael Conner, 10s. John Fraser, who appeared to be suffering very severely from the effects of drink, was remanded to Port Lyttelton for eight days for medical examination.

Wife Desertion. Peter Tirnbey was brought up on remand, charged with deserting his wife. Mr Jamieson appeared for the complainant, a rather pretty and pleasing young woman. The whole point in dispute was a baby, which the defendant kept possiou of, and refused to give up to the complainant. The case was further adjourned until to-morrow.
