The barque Island City arrived yesterday from Newcastle, after a rather stormy passage of twelve days. Left Newcastle on 20ih, and had strong winds till within 200 miles of the land, when a severe s mtlK-rly gal 3 was encountered. The splendid schooner Agnes Donald left Poverty Bay April 26th, with a cargo of timber, and experienced flue weather and variable winds during part of the passage. When oft Cape Palllscr experienced heavy S. W. gale, and had to heave-to for thirty hours. Arrived here yesterday morning. TheN.Z.S.S. Go’s handsome steamer Taranaki arrived in harbor yesterday at 1-20 p.m. with the ’Frisco mall on board. Captain Lloyd is to be congratulated on his smart passage from Auckland, Which he has accomplished in three days, and no doubt receivers of letters by this mail will appreciate his despatch. The following Is the report of the passage—Left Mauukau at 1.15 p.m. April 29th, arrived at Taranaki on 30th at 6 a.m ; left again at 8 a.m. reached Nelson 11 p.m; left May Ist at 2 a.m, arrived at Picton at 11 a.m; left at noon, reached Wellington at 6 p.m; left at 8.30 p.m, and arrived as above. Experienced N.W. and westerly weather throughout, rain and thick weather prevailing from Manakau to Picton. We have to thank Mr Edmlston, the purser, for the files and reports. The Taranaki steamed South shortly after 3 p.m. esterday. Messrs McMeokan, Blackwood’s magnificent new steamer Arawata arrived here yesterday at 830 a.m., and was moored to the Gladstone pier. She left Melbourne at 3.15 p.m. on the 24th, cleared Port Philip Heads at 6 p.m., and passed Swan Island at 11.45 a.m. next day. She started with westerly winds, which on the second day hauled to the southward, andheld there fresh, with a heavy S.B. sea as she neared the land, during the remainder of the passage. The Solander was passed at 8.30 p.m. on the 28th, and the Bluff gained at 10 £ra., after a smart run of four days five hours, anded passengers and discharged 100 tons Of cargo at the Bluff, and left at 5 pm. on the 29th, arriving at Port Chalmers at 6.30 a.m. 30th, under easy steam. The Arawata discharged 180 tons of cargo at Dunedin, and left at 4 p.m. May Ist, arriving here as above. She sailed for Wellington and Nelson last night, and returns in time to take the outward Suez mail on Saturday next. The Arawata had on board 180 tons cargo, 50 of which were for this port. Besides passengers for this port, the steamer has 57 for North. We thank Mr Miller, the purser, for the report and delivery ot our Melbourne files. ENGLISH SHIPPING. The ship Lutterworth, Captain Pearson, arrived at London on February 19th fiom Lyttelton Only two other vessels had arrived at home from New Zealand up to the time of the mail leaving, viz, the Timaru, from Otago, on March 4th, and the Flechero, on March Ist. The ship Maggie Douglass, 629 tons, left Gravesend for Canterbury, on March 7th. The Desdemona sailed from Deal, February 20th, and was off Torbay, February 25th, for Canterbury.
